Grammy-winning musician returns to Grand Rapids

Legendary folk artist Judy Collins comes to St. Cecilia Music Center.

Collins will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 at the St. Cecilia Music Center (SCMC) at 24 Ransom Ave. NE to Grand Rapids.

The Grammy Award winner will perform her 50-album oeuvre for her third SCMC concert.

Collins is a multi-hyphen whose career spans more than five decades of lyricism, singing, authorship, filmmaking and social activism. His most recent musical offering was his 2019 album “Winter Stories” in collaboration with Norwegian folk artist Jonas Fjeld and bluegrass band Chatham County Line.

Collins is best known for her renditions of traditional and contemporary folk standards, including her cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” which earned her a Grammy Hall of Fame induction. His version of “Send in the Clowns” from the musical “A Little Night Music” won Song of the Year at the 1975 Grammy Awards. Collins’ Grammy nominations since then include a nomination for Best Folk Album for his 2017 album “Silver Skies Blue”.

“Judy Collins is an incredible musician and storyteller,” said Cathy Holbrook, Executive and Artistic Director of SCMC. “With her beautiful voice, her original music that we all know and love, and her personal stories of folk and rock artist friends that she has known for decades, seeing and hearing Judy on stage is truly captivating.

“We are thrilled to have her return to St. Cecilia Music Center for her third concert and to help us commemorate yet another full year of live concerts at SCMC. What a wonderful way to end our 2021-2022 season. »
