Visitors to Crawford during the June bank holiday will be in for a treat on Sunday June 5 when Guitar Plus perform in the Gallery’s iconic Long Room.
A selection of MTU Cork School of Music’s most talented students are lined up for performances amidst the visually arresting collectible exhibition Botanica: The Art of Plants, which runs until September 18. Guitar Plus is a collective of senior classical guitar students and graduates of MTU Cork School of Music. The guitar orchestra includes: Sara Corkery, Victoria Pierce, Robert Keating, John Ahern, Tadhg Cunningham, Eoin McDermott and Brian Sheridan. The performance is directed by Jerry Creedon.
The performance will also feature special guest Claudia Duffy, 12, a brilliant young classical guitarist, who studies with Jerry Creedon at MTU Cork School of Music. Claudia recently won the Under-16 Junior Classical Guitar Competition at the Feis Ceoil in Dublin, having previously won the Under-12 Junior Classical Guitar Competition in 2021.
Claudia has been praised by international judge and performer, Craig Ogden, for the keen sense of musicality that emanates from her playing as well as her powerful sound and attention to detail.
Claudia also won the MTUCSM Junior Recital competition earlier this year. The committed 12-year-old travels weekly to MTU CSM from her home in Dingle, West Kerry, where she is in 6th class at Ballyferriter NS.
Jerry Creedon, keynote speaker, comments: “Claudia is extremely committed to undertaking such a journey each week, not to mention the time spent in rehearsals, her accomplishments are well deserved. We are delighted that the educational reach of MTU Cork School of Music is expanding, particularly in counties Cork and Kerry.”
