NEWLY CROWNED BBC 2022 Young Musician, percussionist Jordan Ashman performs at the Royal Spa Center in Leamington on Sunday 13th November.
Jordan, who hails from Cambridgeshire and studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, performed American composer Jennifer Higdon’s Percussion Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall to win the prestigious competition – only the third percussionist to do so in nearly half a century. century.
The Spa Center concert, promoted by Leamington Music, will feature three brass bands in a program marking Remembrance Sunday and the 150th anniversary of the birth of English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Jordan will perform a solo – Over the Rainbow – on marimba and perform as part of the bands.
Led by the Tredegar Band, who have played in two BBC Proms this summer, the concert features the Royal Birmingham Conservatory Brass Band, also led by Ian Porthouse, and Youth Brass 2000 with conductor Chris Jeans.
The concert features works by Berlioz and Strauss as well as Vaughan Williams and includes songs from The Great War by Bruce Fraser and at the end the massive bands will play Lest We Forget by Christopher Bond.

The all-female Quartet line-up includes two British violinists, Beatrice Philips and Venetia Jollands, while Hannah Shaw on viola and Hannah Sloane on cello are American and both studied at the Juilliard School in New York, the largest American conservatory. .
The concert program, part of Leamington Music’s International String Quartet Concerts series, begins and ends in Vienna with Haydn’s Quartet in G Op 76 No. 1 and the first of Beethoven’s later quartets, the Quartet in E flat op 127.
Between these quartets, the quartet will play Tendrils by Howard Skempton. This has been timed to celebrate the 75th birthday of the composer who has lived in Leamington for over 30 years.
